2 volumes. Presentation copy from the author to the actress Maud Allan. She danced the role of Salome, and was at the centre of a famous libel trial in 1918. Arch Conservative MP Noel Pemberton Billing implied she was a lesbian and a sadist (as well as a follower of Wilde!). She sued and lost, partly because of Billing's claim that there was a sexually perverse pro German Fifth Column in England that was compromising possible peace for a war weary England. Modern full green morocco binding. Very good copy, with one leaf professionally repaired. TOGETHER WITH; KETTLE, Michael - Salome's Last Veil - The Libel Case of the Century - Granada 1977. & Wilde's Last Stand. Decadence, Conspiracy & The First World War. Duckworth 1997. These titles cover the trial.
